As the WP article probably says (I ain't goin' to look), Ram Dass is the author of the Sixties classic Be Here Now.

When the lectures I spoke of went out of circulation, I went on Amazon and bought up several used copies. Email me an address and I'll send you a set. Among other things you'll laugh yer buns off, and the endorphins will be good for you.

I haven't heard of Ram Dass before, but the Wikipedia article seems very intriguing. His is a very unique story. I'll have to keep an eye out for some of his works, if they can be found somewhere commonplace..

Great post. In my own journal I got a lot of strength from just plain freakin' saying WHAT'S SO, whether it sucked or not. And getting to know the trip - the astoundingly, unknowably unfamiliar, sudden, involuntary trip - was a huge part of it for me.

> My writing looked even worse than usual

Heh, well, there's an MD in the making if ever I saw one. Ain't you lucky electronic prescribing will make that less of an iatrogenic risk.

Seriously, though ... cat's Yogananda quote reminds me to ask if you're familiar with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ram_Dass" rel="nofollow">Ram Dass</a>'s stroke and recovery. Wife Ginny and I saw him speak a few years ago (still in wheelchair) and his spirit was still phenomenal. He spoke in a big church, and when he was wheeled in, he completely filled the vast space. I'd never seen anything like it.

Almost 20 years ago I became (for some reason) his tapes "Conscious Aging" and "Approaching Death," both having to do with the youthful body dropping away. He has a *phenomenal* sense of humor, on top of his Boston Jewish upbringing and his decades of Tibetan studies (and psychedelics). So to see him in that late stage of life, with new profound things to say, added a new depth and perspective to the whole conversation.

always , always, spot on. my friend.

" the deeper the self-realization of a man, the more he influences the whole universe by his subtle spiritual vibrations, and the less he himself is affected by the phenomenal flux" (paramahansa yogananda)
